Case: Perforated tube for exhaustion systems

This case concerns a perforated tube, used for exhaustion systems in trucks.

As the tube is part of an exhaustion system, it is constantly exposed to high temperature, chemicals and exhaustion gas. Therefore, the tube is made from stainless steel with a special heat resistant alloy, to make it durable and more resistant to corrosion.

How we manufacture the tube

The tube is manufactured from sheet metal. The holes in the sheet are formed using a stamping operation. Subsequently the perforated sheet enters a rolling operation where it is rolled to a cylindrical shape. After that the item is welded together by a robot in a longitudinal welding operation on our plasma welders. 

Both the forging operation and the welding operation are done in one fully automated process. The insertion of the perforated plate and the packing of the finished items is also done automatically. The fully automated process makes it both faster and cheaper to produce in large batch sizes, for the benefit of our customers' profitability and competitiveness.
